Our Holiday to Europe in a Pandemic.

Our family of five, with three teenage children, had an opportunity to go to Europe in December 2021 and so we went.  Omicron was just spreading across the world and we were unsure what to do.  We took a calculated risk and saw others on the other side of the world living their lives and enjoying themselves, so we decided to go.

We went with two attitudes: ‘We’ll roll with it’ i.e. if we get Covid we’ll roll with it, if we can’t get into a country, we’ll roll with it’.  We would always make the move we wanted to do and if we couldn’t do something we waited to be told which never happened.  We also decided to choose kindness, no matter what happens if we can’t do what we want to do, we will show kindness.

We booked flights in and out of Heathrow and booked the first five nights accommodation… We ended up going to England, Wales, Italy, Austria, France.  We went to museums, climbed mountains, ate local cuisine, watched musicals in the West End, went to the Vatican, Ponte Vecchio saw all the wonderful sights of each country and celebrated Christmas in Strasbourg and we didn’t get Covid.

Our children learnt, not everything has to be set before you leave.  You can plan and change things enroute.  Austria was in lockdown but while we were in Italy we heard they were coming out of lockdown so we decided to head there.

We were able to help the various countries tourist economies and take the role of tourist and bless people rather than always finding the best bargain.  At the end of the day people are just trying to put food on the table for their families.

The trickiest part of the holiday was working out what the next country needed for entry; vaccination passports, passenger locator forms, negative PCR tests.  We know how to find them in Australia but overseas can be a bit tricky as they have different systems and sometimes in another language.

As a family we are so thankful we took the step and got on the plane and had our four week holiday.  Time is short with children and so we wanted to create memories.

Thank you to Lesley and the team at Travelaffare Blackwood for organising and encouraging us to go.  They were helpful in finding us the best price at a tricky time of year and uncertain what would happen.  They gave us up to date information and how we can access up to date Covid information for each country’s requirements.  And they checked in on us while we were away.

If we had our time again, we would still decide to go, it’s all part of life, living, family time, memories.

Recently returned from a Globus tour to Newfoundland and Labrador (verygood) and a Tauck tour of the Canadian Maritimes (excellent and on what other tour could you have, included, Lobster every day!!). As usual, Lyndall and the team made this all smooth sailing and we would never do this without such a competent travel agent team behind every booking. Their ability to always “think outside the box” is a joy to behold.

We had a beautiful honeymoon. Scarborough was lovely! Beautiful beaches, such a nice and relaxed atmosphere, cool pubs and cafes etc. We did Rottenest Island for a day, Fremantle for a day (Maritime museum and Fremantle markets), spent a day in Perth at kings Park + a bit of shopping, saw an AFL game. Other than that we just relaxed at the motel or on the beach and lapped up the sunshine. So glad we decided to go West, the weather was between 30-35 degrees every day we were there, unreal!
Thank you so much again for all your help. I am so glad we had our honeymoon booked by you in the first place, god knows what we would’ve done if we had to organise it ourselves after not being able to go to Hamilton – we probably would’ve just taken the refund and not gone anywhere at all (too hard basket!)! Thanks for making it such an easy and stress-free process, we Will definitely be in touch with future getaways! Hopefully we will get to Hamilton island for a 1 or 2 year anniversary!

We have just had the best Christmas ever! Thanks to the girls at Travelaffare our 4 weeks of travelling via Dubai, Prague, Finland and Holland went without a hitch. Everything fell into place and exceeded our expectations. Our visit to the most unique ‘non commercialised’ visit to see Santa in Lapland was the highlight!  Biggest of thanks again.
